The co-operator of a cottage rental assets in Cavendish, P.E.I., is celebrating the community council’s final decision to reject a music competition proposed for mid-July.

Whitecap Amusement wished to launch the Sommo Competition, a two-day rock live performance and culinary competition, on July 14-15 — the weekend following the 2023 Cavendish Seashore Songs Competition (CBMF).

The Resort Municipality of Stanley Bridge, Hope River, Bayview, Cavendish and North Rustico voted 3-2 towards the software Monday night time.

The proposal has achieved sizeable opposition mainly simply because of its timing.

“Occupancy, throughout that time period, it can be at 100 for each cent in any case. So where by are these live performance goers heading to remain? They are likely to close up staying in Charlottetown, they are going to conclude up being on the outskirts,” explained Adam Lowther, co-proprietor of Fairways Cottages.

“We are just hoping to bolster our off-year, and secure that family members demographic that has been coming for 20 many years and has been loyal for 20 many years.”

The vacation resort municipality has an situations plan that prioritizes spouse and children travellers from July 1 to Sept. 4, Lowther explained, and he was happy to see council uphold it.

“For our municipality, we have to make absolutely sure we place our constituents and stakeholders and inhabitants to start with, and it did not really exhibit a large advantage to us,” he explained.

Festival will go forward

Whitecap Leisure CEO Ben Murphy reported the choice was disappointing, and he hoped for clarification from council.

The vacation resort municipality put the pageant on the agenda for a unique council conference scheduled for Wednesday night, but Whitecap is organizing for Sommo to go forward no matter of the last selection in Cavendish.

The festival’s dates are fixed by the availability of the performers but the area is not, and Murphy reported Whitecap has already heard from other municipalities intrigued in hosting the occasion.

“We are genuinely seeking ahead to having a second pageant out there,” said Murphy.

“Our initially preference is usually Cavendish. We’ve been in Cavendish for 14 many years suitable now. We have a lot invested in the municipality.”
