Kim Mitchell is coming home — sort of — for the Shake the Lake audio competition.
“My father was born and elevated in Estevan, Saskatchewan, so I sense like I have a little bit of Saskatchewan blood in me,” the Canadian rocker explained to the Greg Morgan Morning Exhibit.
Mitchell is the headliner Friday during Shake the Lake, which is held on the grounds of the Conexus Arts Centre.
“I’ve crossed Canada so numerous situations over my 40-year vocation,” Mitchell stated. “Some bands are like, ‘Oh, you get to the prairies and it’s like c’mon.’ I’m like, ‘What are you speaking about? It’s so stunning.’
“There’s just a thing Zen-ish about the total factor, just travelling through there. We’ve pulled the bus in excess of in northern Saskatchewan and just laid down on the highway. You can lay there for 20 minutes — there is not a vehicle in the middle of the evening — and enjoy the northern lights.”
The northern lights may not be on the schedule for Shake The Lake, but some of the brightest lights in Canadian audio heritage are among the the functions set to strike the stage.
The performances Friday incorporate SAGA (5:45 p.m.), Harlequin (7:15 p.m.) and Mitchell (9 p.m.). The slate Saturday is to aspect Lee Aaron (4:15 p.m.), Aldo Nova (5:45 p.m.), Chilliwack (7:15 p.m.) and Collective Soul (9 p.m.).
Neil Donnelly, the CEO of the Conexus Arts Centre, mentioned tickets for the Friday exhibits are still readily available, but Saturday passes are offered out.
“If you want to go to Shake the Lake, it is Friday only at this point,” Donnelly advised Morgan.
Pageant organizers are to split in the stage Thursday evening with a performance by Johnny Reid.
“We believed, ‘The occasion is established up, we’re all all set to go with that major infrastructure that it requires, so why not check out to set a further clearly show on?’ So we have bought Johnny Reid coming (Thursday),” Donnelly said.
Like Mitchell, Chilliwack has performed in Regina before, like at past Shake the Lake situations.
Monthly bill Henderson, the band’s frontman, stated its visits to the Queen City have been unforgettable.
“There’s tales — and some of them I simply cannot even tell you,” Henderson informed Morgan. “Regina has always been extremely heat and welcoming. I like executing outdoor exhibits there and I hope that every person comes and just has a wonderful time. That’s actually all it is about.”
Henderson was 1 of the founding members of Chilliwack when the band was shaped in 1970. The 78-calendar year-aged claims he does exercises to keep his voice in condition so that he can continue on hitting the notes essential for tracks like “Fly At Evening.”
